Quan Yin (Kuan Yin) One Who Sees and Hears the Cry from the Human World. "She who always observes or pays attention to sounds".

Quan Yin (Kuan Yin) is the popular bodhisattva prophet, a true Enlightened one to whom childless women turn for help. Kuan-Yin, whose name means "ONE Who Contemplates the sound of the world," i.e. she who hears prayers. She is goddess of fecundity as well as of mercy. Worshipped by everyone, especially women, this goddess comforts the troubled, the sick, the lost and the unfortunate. Her popularity has grown such thoughout the centuries that she is now also regarded as the protector of seafarers, farmers and travelers. She cares for souls in the underworld, and is invoked during post-burial rituals to free the soul of the decreased from the torments of purgatory.
I have travelled all over Asia visiting temples dedicated to this goddess, and I'm always humbled by her loving energy. The love and respect she has from everyone whether young or old, rich or poor. I've seen the youngest child at the age of one to elder ninety years old- doing bows to Kuan Yin at many holy shrines/temples, their kindness and love radiates and touches my heart. I feel so blessed when they smile, bow look into my eyes and sometimes hug me.
No other figure/goddess appears in a greater variety of images, of which there are said to be a thousand different incarnations or manifestations.
According to one ancient legend her name was Miao Shan, and she was a princess, the daughter of a rich King on the Island of Macau which I'm about to go and visit next week, another great adventure like all the rest I have taken.
Why is this bodhisattva popular in so many Asian families, (actually now it seems world wide)? It may may be because Kuan Yin is represented as a female with an appearance that embraces the qualities of compassion and motherly love. In addition, because many Buddhist scriptures state that one can invoke Kuan Yin's assistance by simply calling out her name, people feel she is very approacable.
Kuan Yin/Quan Yin uses all kinds of of ways to attract people: she makes gifts, uses words of love, and transforms herself into persons like those that she deals with. The "Universal Gateway" chapter in the Lotus Sutra lists thirty-two typical forms in which Kuan Yin may appear. For instance, if a boy or girl is about to gain some enlightment, Kuan Yin transforms herself into a boy or girl to teach the child. If a monk is about to attain some enlightment, Kuan Yin transforms herself into a monk. In short, she can appear as a monk, a nun, a king, a minister, a celestial being, or a normal person like you and me. The purpose of such transformation is to make people feel close to her and willing to listen to her words.
"I am cultivating this method of great compassion and hope to save all living beings," Kuan Yin said. "Any living being who calls my name or sees me will be free from all fears and danger. I will activate that being's spiritual awareness and maintain it forever."
In other words, this bodhisattva's main attraction for people lies in her efforts to elimate suffering and to make people live in PEACE and Harmony. This kind of immediate benefit and ability to receive protection or help simply by calling her, similar to children receiving an instant reply when calling their mother, have contributed to Kuan Yin's great popularity. One of the most universally beloved deities in the world, Quan Yin is also known as Quan'Am in (Vietnam), Kannon in (Japan), and (Kanin) in Bali, Tara in (India), or even Kwan Yin. She is the embodiment of compassionate loving kindness. I feel she is carrying the same loving energy as Mother Mary who I have also worked with for over twenty five years.
I feel blessed and overwhelmed sometimes that she has chosen me as a vessel for the past twenty or more years to help with her work. I am writing a book "Travels with Kuan Yin - Quan Yin" which will come out later this year. I also found many statues, treasures, mantra's and jewels which I will sell.
I would like to leave you with one of Quan Yins  compassion Mantra. I suggest you do it everyday, or especially when you feel distressed or disturbed. It will bring you much peace, grace and fulfillment leading into enlightment.
'Quan Yin is known as she who hears the cries of the world.'
I for one know it's true. She came to me in a midst of a painful life experience in a dream promising that she would watch over me and I would live. I was on my death bed enjoying the bright light at the end of a peaceful tunnel. She has been with me every day since then, I just need to call and acknowledge her for support in troubling challenges.
Suggest you set-up a special place/shrine you can do this special mantra. Find yourself a lovely picture, statue or what ever of Quan Yin to look and enjoy. I like to add flowers, candles, oil scents and/or inscents.
If possible it's nice to bow before her and hold your hands in prayer when you are saying the mantra. You can also place a glass/cup of water to drink afterwards (read below).
